I am interested in environmental science and climate action, with experience on ecosystem- and climate-focused projects and college-level coursework in Marine Biology and a high school course in Ecology and Environmental Biology. Beyond academics, I am actively involved in youth mentorship and leadership through my Dragon Boat club, where I help lead practices, host youth programs, and teach teamwork and paddling skills. I have also served in a leadership role on a national-level Dragon Boat team representing Team USA. Additionally, I have competed in math competitions for two years, strengthening my analytical and problem-solving skills.

Keira is excited to serve as the Outreach Officer for Pomona Chapter of Wow That’s STEM, where she gets to combine her communication skills, love for working with kids, and passion for STEM to bring fun, hands-on learning to her community.  Keira truly believes STEM should be exciting and accessible to everyone, and she can’t wait to help spread that energy to the communities. In the future, she dreams of becoming a forensic anthropologist, using science to solve real-world mysteries and make a meaningful impact. In her free time, you’ll probably find her watching anime, listening to music, eating spicy food, or hanging out with her friends and family. Keira is beyond grateful for this opportunity and promises to give her all to help grow this chapter and serve her community the best way she can!

Ivy likes to go to the beach and go shopping in her free time. Being part of the Pomona Chapter of WOW! made her realize her love for helping kids understand the world of STEM. She loves attending workshops and seeing kids use their independence to work on their projects. She also loves seeing kids who ask for help when they need it. She is always open to helping kids learn and be excited about STEM.

Alyssa Islas

Favorite Food: Banh Mi

What motivates me: My grandmother, who raised me, was never able to attend school. Because of that, I want to do everything I can to become knowledgeable so I can teach her everything she wants to know. Through WOW! That’s STEM, I hope to expand STEM opportunities for students who don’t have access to resources. I enjoy seeing others find a passion for STEM and learning. Additionally, I’ve always wanted to be part of a community where we learn from one another.

I want to be able to provide STEM opportunities I didn’t always have access to myself. Having experienced limited STEM resources firsthand, I understand how much support and exposure can make a difference. Starting a chapter would allow me to grow as a leader and communicator, while working closely with a team would help me build skills that are essential to my academic journey. Through Falcon Leadership workshops and activities at Cerritos College, I have been developing these skills, and since 2023, I have also been involved in gathering and distributing humanitarian aid across the Mariana Islands, experiences that have strengthened my commitment to service and community.

Fun facts: I lived in Guam for almost 2 years! I used to own a peacock named Xóchitl. I snorkeled next to a Blacktip Reef Shark.

Gavin Greenspan

Driven and curious, Gavin has a strong passion for STEM, with a particular interest and talent in engineering and problem-solving. He balances high level academics with athletics as a dedicated member of both the cross country and tennis teams, demonstrating discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. 

Beyond competing, he serves as the webmaster for the high school tennis team, combining his technical skills with his commitment to supporting his peers. He also brings leadership and responsibility from his experience working as a camp counselor, where he developed a natural ability to connect with and mentor younger kids. 

Outside of school and sports, he enjoys spending time with friends, staying active at the gym, and giving back through community service. Motivated to make a positive impact, he is always looking for opportunities to contribute meaningfully both in and out of the classroom and looks forward to bringing STEM opportunities to kids of San Diego.

Hannah Chen

Hannah loves drawing digitally on her iPad using Procreate, playing a wide variety of video games, and designing graphics for her school’s yearbook. She also began to enjoy coding in middle school when she learned web development and Python later on in high school. However, she hasn’t been able to fully pursue this passion at school due to a lack of technical resources, which is why she believes it is important to raise awareness about STEM and create more opportunities for youth, especially those who are underrepresented.

Growing up as an underrepresented youth from a technologically deprived country, Ian has always been an advocate of helping the same group of people, in hopes of giving them access to opportunities he has not had. After being introduced to WOW! That’s stem by a friend, he felt that it would truly be a platform where he can achieve his advocacy. By being a part of the WOW! Chapter leadership team, he hopes to collaborate with not only the organization but also the youth in their journey to explore the endless field of computer science and stem.

Rindha has been in Scouts of America for almost 3 years now, and she has taken on a leadership role in her Troop for about a year. She has a passion for helping people grow and volunteering. She is also interested in many science classes in school, which she is excited to share with other youth as Chapter Lead and mentor at WOW! That’s STEM.

Pranjal Dherani, is passionate about volunteering and enjoys supporting causes that uplift others, especially those focused on creativity, education, mental wellness, and community building. Pranjal uses her skills in social media, event planning, and outreach to help connect people and spread positivity. In her free time, she enjoys reading, swimming, crafting, and watching movies.

Pranavi Dokula is in 12th grade and believes that volunteering is a major component of mental wellness and social impact. WOW! That’s STEM is a wonderful platform for career exploration, volunteering opportunities, creativity boom, and so much more! In her free time, she enjoys reading, volunteering and sleeping. Her favorite colors are Black and Lavender.

Aishat is a very thoughtful and hardworking person. She enjoys creative hobbies like crocheting and reading. She also very curious about how things work. She like helping others, which is why she would like to be a doctor someday!

Charvik is proud to be part of WOW! That’s STEM. He is all about sparking curiosity, building cool projects, and helping others dive into the world of science and tech. His favorite thing to do is run and play football! He enjoys playing videogames and sleeping!

Ishaan is passionate about improving himself, whether it is his education or how he presents himself. He has always been fond of dinosaurs and wanted to be a paleontologist as a kid. He believes everyone should have the chance and resources to explore their passions and figure out what inspires them in life. Starting a new chapter would create a greater reach for this goal, especially by opening more opportunities for students interested in STEM to learn, grow, and connect with their curiosity.

Fun Fact: He can solve a Rubik’s Cube with one hand!

Edward is passionate about graphic design, digital creativity, and using visual storytelling to make ideas come to life. What drives him is the power of design to connect, inspire, and make education more engaging. He is also deeply interested in how technology can empower communities and give youth more opportunities to shine.

Why WOW! Inspires him: WOW! That’s STEM is building a space where young people , especially underrepresented youth , feel seen, supported, and inspired to lead. Being part of this mission aligns with his goal to use design as a tool for impact and representation.

Liya Girma Tesfaye

Favorite food: Injera with Doro Wat (a traditional Ethiopian dish she especially enjoys!)

Liya has a strong passion for STEM subjects, especially Mathematics, physics, and robotics. She has volunteered in various programs working with children, including tutoring English and organizing diverse educational activities. She has also been actively involved in robotics, and Math club activities, which has enriched her experience in STEM education and youth engagement. These roles allowed her to develop strong communication and leadership skills while creating a positive, supportive learning environment. Through these experiences, she has developed a passion for helping young learners grow and succeed. Beyond STEM, she enjoys drawing and cooking, and she is committed to continuous learning and community involvement.

Liya is excited to inspire more young people through WOW! That’s STEM chapter in her community. She wants to create a supportive and engaging environment for students in her community to explore and enjoy STEM fields. Forming a chapter will allow her to connect with other STEM enthusiasts and empower young learners to pursue their interests confidently.

Priscilla is thrilled to start a WOW! Thats STEM chapter in her community because she has seen many students passionate about STEM, but struggling to take the first step. Her goal is to make STEM more accessible and show them it’s not intimidating. As a fan of sci-fi classics like H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, and Ray Bradbury since she was little,  she has always been passionate about science and STEM. When she is not studying or focusing on her extracurriculars, you can find her binging shows and movies, reading classics, or playing the guitar. She is excited to share her passion with others and make STEM learning fun and engaging!
